It's wonderful how much you can make a difference in these kid's lives, especially since they come from low income families who may not be able to afford expensive tutors to help their children. We also teach them real world skills that we have learned ourselves through our time as students. This became wildly apparent to me when I moved from North Hollywood, where I was raised, to Westlake Village. The caliber of public education, access to tutors, and willingness to help students better themselves is like day and night, almost entirely depending on the socioeconomics of a city. In being a tutor and student ambassador for VCEN, I hope to help mitigate socioeconomic roadblocks for students."
